Part 2: The first step towards the big goal - the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON

The GENERALI BERLIN HALF MARATHON as the starting signal for an unforgettable running season

The GENERALI BERLIN HALF MARATHON is not only the start of the running year for SCC EVENTS, but also for Niels Struckmeyer and Milan Panthel. For the father-son duo, the GENERALI BERLIN HALF MARATHON marks the start of their journey towards their big common goal, the BMW BERLIN MARATHON.

The GENERALI BERLIN HALF MARATHON is no stranger to the two Kreuzbergers. This will be the third time that Niels and Milan have run the 21.0975 kilometre course together on the Straße des 17. This year is special, as they will be facing twice the distance six months later.

Preparations for their big joint goal in September have long since begun. The GENERALI BERLIN HALF MARATHON plays a central role in this. The two have been preparing since the beginning of February. Together they have run distances ranging from a minimum of 10 km to a maximum of 20 km. While Milan's training plan mainly consisted of boxing training and two or three shorter runs, Niels has already finalised his training plan for the Geneva Marathon in May. ‘I was able to integrate the training plan for the half marathon perfectly into my plan for the marathon in Geneva,’ said the 45-year-old. But Milan also has other plans: ‘The GENERALI BERLIN HALF MARATHON is the first race of the season and I haven't run any longer distances yet. After that, I'll slowly work my way up to longer distances to prepare for the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON.’

Home match, motivation, cheering zone - what makes the GENERALI BERLIN HALF MARATHON unique for the father-son duo

Niels and Milan are Berliners through and through. That's why running events in the German capital are very special to them. ‘It's great to run through your own city, to know every corner and the route so well,’ said Milan euphorically. If, contrary to expectations, motivation problems should arise, the two are also well prepared in this respect. They will always meet up with family and friends along the route. ‘That's motivating!’ assures Niels. The duo will also be supported by their running crew, the Berlin Braves, during the run. When asked about the newly introduced cheering zone in Karl-Marx-Allee, the two are very enthusiastic. Milan reports: ‘That sounds exciting! A cheering zone is always a highlight that gives us extra energy. We're looking forward to walking past there and experiencing the atmosphere. It will definitely be another great experience on the course.’
