Wheelchair competitors and handbikers at the GENERALI BERLIN HALF MARATHON

With a view of the Victory Column, handbikers and wheelchair competitors head out onto the course of the GENERALI BERLIN HALF MARATHON. This is your race. Enjoy the support of the numerous live bands and spectators. Goosebumps and half marathon top times are guaranteed.

Registration for wheelchair competitors and handbikers is possible from April 11, 2024 to March 13, 2025, or until the participation limit has been reached.

The participation fee depends on availability due to the current number of registered participants. So it pays to be quick here too!

Information for wheelchair competitors and handbikers

Regardless of the starting class, only those participants who can complete the race under their own power are eligible to start.

  • Auxiliary drives of any kind are not permitted.
  • Knee bikes are not permitted.

Wearing a helmet is required. It is not possible to start the race without a helmet

Wheelchair and handbike athletes will receive 2 MIKA TAGs for the timekeeping. One TAG will be on the back of your bib number, the second has to be attached to the front of the wheelchair/handbike with a cable tie. 

Starting class

Wheelchair competitor

  • T 1 Quadriplegic Tetraplegia C5/C6: No functionality of the legs, trunk or fingers; no ability to straighten the elbows
  • T 2 Quadriplegic Tetraplegia C6/C7: No functionality of the legs or trunk; limited hand functionality; arms and shoulders fully functional
  • T 3/4 Quadriplegic Paraplegia and other disabilities (e.g. amputations): Full arm and hand functionality; limited to full trunk functionality; some impaired leg functionality.

Handbiker

  • H1–H4 Recumbent hand cycle or adaptive bike / H1 Tetraplegia C6 and higher:Limited functionality of the arms and hands; severe limitations to straightening the elbows; limited temperature regulation
  • H2 Tetraplegia C7/C8: Limited functionality of the arms and hands; limited temperature regulation
  • H3 Paraplegia up to TH10: Limited trunk stability
  • H4 Paraplegia from TH11 to L4, leg amputations : Limited or no lower leg functionality; double upper leg amputations; normal or almost normal trunk stability

Race day

Car parking on the day of the event

A limited number of car parking spaces (only with official special parking permit) are available on Altonaer Str. - driving direction from Grosser Stern towards Hansaplatz. Accessible toilets are available in this area. See map here

Additional parking spaces may be available on Fasanenstrasse, near the Charlottenburg Gate. 

Access to the event area

Access and security checks for wheelchair users and handbikers are only possible from the Siegessäule (Victory Column) via the southern pedestrian walkway on "Straße des 17.Juni". This entrance will open at 07:30am.
Access via the roadway of "Straße des 17. Juni" is not possible.

Start times

Wheelchair athletes and handbikers start together at 9:55 am.

  • Everyone must be lined up at the start by 9:50 am.
  • The starting line-up will be made by our volunteers on site.

Warm up: 
After the start of the skaters (9:25 am), wheelchair and handbike athletes can begin their warm up.

Accompanying persons

Due to the size of the GENERALI BERLIN HALF MARATHON, it is not possible for accompanying persons to enter the immediate start/finish area. There will be sufficient professional staff present to provide assistance and information as needed.

Meeting place after the finish line

Approx. 200 m after the finish (behind the medals and foils at the intersection of Strasse des 17. Juni/Yitzhak-Rabin-Str).
Volunteers will be waiting at the crossroads to guide you through all the finishers to the changing tents, where you left your belongings at the start.
