In response to numerous inquiries, the organisers of the real,- BERLIN-MARATHON
confirm that the marathon will take place on September 30, 2001.
As a sign of the solidarity of Berlin, the citys marathon, and its more than
36,000 participants with the victims of the brutal attacks of 11.09.2001 in New
York and Washington, the organisers of the real,- BERLIN-MARATHON are appealing
to all participants to give generously to the collection being made for the
bereaved families of the members of the New York Fire Department and Police who
lost their lives in the aftermath of the tragic events of 11.09.2001.
With this appeal for New Yorks Fire Department and Police, the real,-
BERLIN-MARATHON would like to express its indebtedness to the institutions
which play such an important role in both the New York City Marathon and the
BERLIN MARATHON.
Furthermore, because we cannot forget how much we owe the Americans in
helping to realise the first marathon through the city in 1981, we feel that we
are under a deep obligation to the relatives, the bereaved, the children of the
New York fire fighters and police, the organisers of the New York City
Marathon, and the citizens of the USA to make this appeal.
