Registration for the 31st real,- BERLIN MARATHON 2004

Registration for the 31st real,- BERLIN MARATHON 2004 was opened on the

internet on January 1, 2004 at 00:01 a.m. Following last year s spectacular

success with the world record time by Paul Tergat (KEN) and the two-day event,

with the skaters on Saturday and the runners on Sunday, the organizers from SCC

RUNNING have again applied for the weekend of September 25-26, 2004 with the

Berlin authorities.

Last year there were more than 45,000 athletes from 99 countries on start.

Registration is currently only possible for the runners, wheelchair

com-petitors and power walkers, as a definitive official permit for the inline

skating race has not yet been received. So the inline skaters will have to wait

patiently a little bit longer. The event organizers are optimistic, however,

that after last year s great success of the largest inline skater marathon

(9,612 participants from 45 countries) and the enthusiasm of the over 200,000

spectators along the course, that authorities attitude about the race has

changed. The start, finish and course of the 31st real,- BERLIN MARATHON will

remain the same this year.

The limit for the runners lies at 35,000 participants, and at 10,000 for the

inline skaters. So far since January 1, there have been 1,282 online

registrations for runners. After last years great success, the organizers

expect that the race will be sold out by June, at the latest.

Those who register via internet by June 30, 2004, benefit in two ways--for

one, they save a trip to the mailbox, and for the other, all online registrants

will automatically be entered in a drawing for more than 100 attractive

prizes.
