In order to make the spring classic even faster and more attractive for runners and their spectators, the organizers have optimized the course through the German capital. A few kilometers around the tranquil Lietzensee lake in Charlottenburg through the western part of the city have been removed and added in central Berlin around Alexanderplatz.
The new part of the route runs for 2.5 km in the opposite direction past the Berlin Palace and the Rotes Rathaus to the turning point on Karl-Marx-Allee. Fans, live bands, running crews and cheering points will also have completely new perspectives for interaction when the half marathon caravan passes them twice.
The now two-kilometer-long home stretch along the magnificent boulevard Unter den Linden becomes an exciting showdown for all participants, fans, samba bands and cheering zones. This is where the race is decided and the anticipation of the run through the Brandenburg Gate, just 150 meters before the finish line, grows by leaps and bounds.
The course becomes flatter and straighter, which makes it much faster.
The gaps between the women's and men's world records* set in Valencia and the best times in Berlin** are still pretty big. But it would come as no great surprise if they were to narrow a little on April 6 at the GENERALI BERLIN HALF MARATHON.
We are looking forward to celebrating the new course of the GENERALI BERLIN HALF MARATHON together with all the athletes, supporters, sponsors and spectators.
