Up from tomorrow, everybody in Berlin will start to realize, that the 39th BMW BERLIN MARATHON is just around the corner. Tomorrow morning the team of SCC EVENTS will be on their way around the course for three days in order to fix the no-parking signs and for the marathon weekend. It will be a total number of 800 signs.
The process is nowadays well experienced: a team of three man will start at the Straße des 17. Juni, the start- and finish area. Every 100 meters, the car with the signs stops. The side door of the van slips open, and one person has the ladder ready to give it to his colleague. The third man gets off the van, takes the ladder, climbs up and attaches the sign to the respective street lamp with wire straps. This goes on every 100 meters until the total length of 55 kilometers for the skaters and runners course is fully signposted.
After the marathon weekend the tour is going backwards again. All signs must be hung off again. But this does not take quite as long. Many spectators or participants are taking off the signs themselves as a souvenir of the BMW BERLIN MARATHON. According to Michael Feistkorn, the head of this team, every year about one-third of the no-parking signs are missing after the marathon weekend. "It's good for us," he says: "This means we have a less work to do!"
