After a year of injuries, the GENERALI BERLIN HALF MARATHON could herald an upward trend for Rabea Schöneborn. She may even have the chance to qualify for the European Half Marathon Championships. Because up to six runners could start at the European Championships in Rome in June.
Rabea Schöneborn ran probably the strongest race of her career at the 2022 European Championships. The Berliner finished twelfth and won the European Cup classification integrated into the race with the German team. However, she was unlucky in the spring and had to undergo surgery on her foot. So she couldn't start the Hanover Marathon as planned. The BMW BERLIN-MARATHON came too early; she gave up after 25 km. In the race for the three Olympic starting places for this summer's Games in Paris, Rabea Schöneborn made one last attempt at qualification in Valencia last December. There she clearly missed the target time and crossed the finish line after 2:31:05. This year didn't start well either: Rabea Schöneborn had to leave the half marathon in Houston early due to a bad cold.
Rabea Schöneborn developed strongly over several years together with her twin sister Deborah. In the half marathon, Rabea Schöneborn took 54th place at the top-class world championships in 2020 and won the bronze medal with the German team, which also included her sister. This was followed by a good marathon debut in Valencia in December with a time of 2:28:42 hours. In spring 2021 she improved to 2:27:03 at the Enschede Marathon. If she had run just nine seconds faster, she would have pushed her twin sister out of an Olympic starting spot. Instead of the Olympics, she ran the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON and finished ninth in 2:28:49.
Rabea Schöneborn studies psychology in Berlin and works 20 hours a week as a consultant for a personnel service provider.
